DTEK Renewables supported the first stage of the All-Ukrainian Energy Management Olympiad at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

DTEK Renewables supported the first stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in Energy Management, which took place from 14 to 16 April at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, the National Technical University of Ukraine. The event brought together talented young people from two key fields: “Electrical Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics” and “Thermal Power Engineering”.

In addition to the main competition programme, participants had the opportunity to test their skills in creative tasks and solving real-life business cases. Experts from DTEK Renewables developed a special practical task addressing current challenges in the renewable energy sector. Six participants in the Olympiad presented their proposed solutions.

Engineering managers at DTEK Renewables assessed the entries and selected three winners who demonstrated the most original and technically sound approach.

First place was shared by two students – Kostyantyn Overchenko (Khmelnytskyi National University, Khmelnytskyi) and Anastasia Melnyk (Kyiv Aviation Institute State University, Kyiv). The students demonstrated an original approach to solving the problem, drew in-depth conclusions based on the results of their calculations, and carried out an additional assessment of factors beyond the scope of the task.

Second place went to Olga Klimchuk, a student at the State University “Kyiv Aviation Institute”, who described in detail the logical approach to solving the problem and demonstrated a deep understanding of the task within the context of her specialisation.

“We are truly proud of the talented young people we have seen at this competition. The students’ level of preparation and creativity give us confidence in the future of Ukraine’s energy sector, as the renewable energy sector currently requires a large number of specialists. We are grateful to Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute for the opportunity to participate in the Olympiad and to work together to nurture a new generation of high-quality specialists,” said Vitaliy Gerasymenko, Head of the Engineering Department at DTEK Renewables.

In total, over 40 students from 15 higher education institutions across Ukraine took part in the first stage of the All-Ukrainian Olympiad. Several young people won prizes in two or more categories.

All Olympiad winners will receive special gifts from the company.

“The collaboration between DTEK Renewables and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is systematic. The company actively invests in the country’s educational potential. For instance, a renewable energy laboratory is already successfully operating at the university’s Educational and Scientific Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management, and a new weather station has recently become operational. “We are glad that, thanks to this collaboration with DTEK Renewables, our students can work with state-of-the-art equipment and explore ‘green’ technologies,” says Olena Borychenko, Head of the Department of Power Supply at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.

DTEK Renewables continues to support specialist education, building a bridge between theoretical knowledge in universities and the real needs of Ukraine’s renewable energy sector.
