About the project
The US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has approved a landmark loan for DTEK's 200 MW/400 MWh battery energy storage project in central Ukraine – the largest DFC debt transaction in Ukraine's energy sector since russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
Built in just six months rather than the typical 18-24 months, this €125 million project showcases Ukraine's capacity to execute innovative energy infrastructure amid war, providing the critical foundation for grid resilience through successful international collaboration.
The 400 MWh storage capacity can power the equivalent of 600,000 Ukrainian homes for two hours – equivalent to half of Kyiv's households – whilst providing millisecond response times for frequency stabilisation that conventional power plants cannot match.
The DFC’s decision represents a vote of confidence in our energy sector and demonstrates that Ukraine is a compelling destination for international investors.
As the largest private investor in Ukraine, this approval allows DTEK to deploy further capital into a pipeline of projects that will strengthen our collective energy security in the years ahead.
