DTEK Renewables is one of the largest producers of ecologically clean energy in Ukraine. By increasing its portfolio of renewable energy projects, the company aims to take the lead in the fight against the consequences of climate change.

DTEK Renewables is a key investor in Ukrainian green energy: we have already invested EUR 1.2 billion in the construction of renewables power plants with a total capacity of almost 1.1 GW.

According to the results from 2023, the company generated more than 1 billion kWh with its solar and wind power plants, which enabled the prevention of 1.1 million tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

‘BIRD ISLANDS’ ATLAS

DTEK Renewable continues to safeguard biodiversity by supporting the ‘Bird Islands’ environmental project on the Tyligul Estuary in the Mykolaiv region.

We have been monitoring the project’s progress since 2024 and are now publishing the ‘Bird Islands’ Atlas. This is an annual, objective report on the project’s findings regarding the impact of artificial islands on the estuary’s birdlife.

The author of the Atlas is Ihor Herzhyk, head of the research department at the Tyligul Regional Landscape Park, a recognised ornithologist in Ukraine and an honoured photographer. Every year he studies the process of bird nesting and rearing of young, including on artificial islands. The research is conducted to assess the project’s effectiveness and identify opportunities for its improvement.

The ‘Birds’ Islands’ project is DTEK Renewable’s contribution to the conservation of Ukraine’s avifauna. We recognise the importance of the project and plan to continue supporting it.

DTEK ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Environmental standards

DTEK Renewables conducts an environmental impact assessment (EIA) before developing projects in renewable energy. The goal is to take into full consideration the impact of solar and wind energy on the environment. EIA identifies and assesses environmental risks, predicts potential social consequences associated with the project, and, if necessary, provides measures aimed at reducing and eliminating the impact on the environment.

The company successfully attracts credit funds for the implementation of projects in wind and solar energy. We cooperate with international financial partners (Euler Hermes, EKF, KUKE, EGAP, and Sinosure) and adhere to the highest environmental protection, social partnership and worker protection standards.

Social partnership

We work in several regions of Ukraine and provide reliable partnership and support for local communities. Together, we develop Social Partnership Programs (SPP), strive to provide comprehensive support, and help solve the most important problems of communities. Our goal is to make territories where the company's enterprises operate better for human life.

OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH

We have implemented a set of measures to ensure safe working conditions for our employees, particularly during martial law.

All production personnel at DTEK Renewables power plants annually undergo training on worker protection and industrial safety, training on providing first aid, and participate in fire drills. The staff is provided with high-quality modern overalls. The staff undergoes regular medical examinations according to set schedules. The employee working conditions follow the regulatory indicators.

Our production process is certified under ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

We strictly comply with the environmental protection requirements set by the Ukrainian legislation. Our environmental management system is certified under the ISO 14001:2015 international standard.

DTEK Renewables uses reclaimed industrial areas for the construction of solar power plants and inflicts minimal impact on wildlife during the implementation of wind power projects. Before the start of construction, we always assess the impact on the environment under the current Ukrainian legislation and international standards.

According to the requirements of the current legislation, an annual study of the impact of wind power plants on the environment is conducted, including the monitoring of bird and bat populations.

Bird Islands

"Bird Islands" is an eco-project initiated and implemented by DTEK Tyligulska WPP and the management of the Tyligulskiy Regional Landscape Park in the Mykolaiv Region. In its essence, it is a unique artificial structure with an area of 1500 m² in the form of islands to support the bird population on the territory of the estuary within the Tyligulskiy Regional Landscape Park. About 270 bird species can be found on this territory, including more than 40 rare species of avifauna listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and the European Red List: rosy pelican, little cormorant, squacco heron, etc.

The eco-project was developed within DTEK’s ESG strategy implementation: ecology, social partnership, and responsible management.

The goal of the project is to additionally protect and enable the possibility of safe nesting for birds in the territory of the Tylihul Estuary, as well as promote the increase in the annual bird population.

Come on, Let’s play!

In 2021, DTEK Renewables joined the "Come on, Let’s play!" sports project, which is implemented by the Shakhtar Social Foundation of Shakhtar Football Club with the financial support of the DTEK company. The project is aimed at the development of children's amateur sports in Ukraine.

The project started in the Mykolaiv region, the Berezanka community – at the end of August, and the Koblevo community – at the beginning of October 2021. More than 50 7 to 12-year-old boys and girls joined the football project.

Community with your own hands

In 2019, the “Community with your own hands” mini-grant competition in the territories of the company’s business activities was implemented with its financial support. The goal of the project is to increase the activity and initiative of the community residents in the development of the villages, towns, and cities where they live. In 2019, 6 communities participated in the project, and 20 projects worth a total of UAH 1.5 million were implemented.

In 2021, the competition was held in all territories where DTEK Renewables does its business, which are 7 territorial communities in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions. 63 initiatives worth UAH 4.9 million were implemented. The main principle of the 2021 competition was the barrier-free access s in its broadest sense.
