The company was awarded in the framework of the national award "ECOtransformation" for the implementation of the unique project "Bird Islands" and a significant contribution to the protection of biodiversity.
The honorary title of "eco-transformer" is annually awarded to the leaders of environmental change in Ukraine, who introduce new technologies and innovations in accordance with the objectives of the UN Global Compact on Environmental Protection, Climate Change and Ecosystem Preservation.
"The issue of environmental protection is becoming more acute every year and no city, no community, no business stands by it. Today, no one has a magic wand for rapid change, however, the only way to develop the state is to green cities and communities, strive to reduce anthropogenic impact on the environment, open new facilities to meet the most stringent environmental requirements, implement RES projects and more. Each of us must transform our habits and create a sustainable demand for environmental friendliness. ECOtransformation is a project that unites around achievements, creates a fashion for a new paradigm of activity. "Ecooscar awards are presented not just for the fact of eco-projects, but for their impact on the economy, the environment and society," said Lyudmila Tsyganok, president of the Professional Association of Environmentalists of Ukraine.
DTEK RENEWABLES makes an active contribution to environmental protection. The company's solar and wind power plants with a total installed capacity of 1 GW avoid CO2 emissions of more than 2.6 million tons per year. At the same time, DTEK VDE implements environmental projects to preserve and increase biodiversity. This year, DTEK VDE's Bird Islands was recognized as one of the best projects aimed at protecting biodiversity. A unique environmental initiative has been implemented on the territory of the Tiligulsky Regional Landscape Park in the Mykolaiv Region. There, DTEK VDE built 1,500 m2 of artificial islands for nesting local birds and those that come to breed. Among the 270 species of birds that liked the territory of the landscape park, almost 40 belong to the rare species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and the European Red List, which makes this location unique. The first monitoring of population changes showed a positive impact of the project: if in natural conditions birds manage to breed no more than 50% of the offspring, then on the islands this figure reaches 90%.
“DTEK RENEWABLES, guided by the ESG principles in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, implements a number of environmental and social initiatives in the regions where it operates. Bird Islands is our first significant eco-project in Mykolayiv to protect biodiversity and the ecosystem. We are grateful to the leadership of the region and the park "Tiligulsky" for supporting our initiative, and the organizers of the competition "ECOtransformation" - for the recognition and appreciation. I am confident that such events will inspire responsible business to new significant environmental projects, "said Oleg Solovey, Director of DTEK Tiligulskaya WEP, while receiving the award.
