DTEK Renewables is conducting in-depth ornithological surveys at the future site of Poltavska Wind Farm to assess and minimize the impact of the wind farm’s operation on birds and bats.
The first stage of the survey conducted at the end of 2023 shows that there are no critical factors that would prevent the construction of Poltavska Wind Farm.
Anas platyrhynchos
The relevant conclusions were made by Eco Protection Research and Production Enterprise after analyzing retrospective, scientific data, bird and bat migration routes, the territory of the Emerald Network and the nature reserve fund, as well as after several field visits.
Ornithological surveys in the field
Currently, the Research and Protection Enterprise is conducting the second stage of survey covering spring migration of birds, their nesting, hatching, and autumn migration. The process of detailed survey lasts a year to cover the entire annual life cycle of birds.
A full report on biodiversity monitoring and the impact of Poltavska Wind Farm on birds and bats will be prepared in early 2025, and it will finally determine whether the wind turbines have any negative impact on the local fauna.
The analysis and conclusions will consider the recommendations of Scottish Natural Heritage and other international documents. If necessary, the experts will provide recommendations on measures to mitigate possible negative impacts on birds and bats, as well as biodiversity monitoring during the operation of the wind farm.
