DTEK Renewables helped restore a destroyed solar farm in Mykolaiv region

DTEK Renewables specialists on request of energy colleagues restored the Niko Solar solar power plant in Mykolaiv region. This is the company’s first external project after its successful experience of Tryfonivska solar power plant restoration.

“Green energy is the key to the energy security of Ukraine. Therefore, we joined the restoration works of our colleagues’ solar farm without hesitation, so that the region would have such important megawatts of distributed generation again. We are also ready to help other companies so that people are sure of a reliable source of power supply next winter, - said Oleksandr Selyshchev, CEO of DTEK Renewables.

The results of the assessment of the 5.7 MW Niko Solar solar power plant after the russian shelling showed that 90% of the generating equipment was damaged.

“When we arrived at the facility, we saw that the solar farm has been almost destroyed by the enemy. Solar panels were scattered over the territory, solar panel tables were broken, we restored them later on. The picture was not reassuring, but we were motivated to inspire new life into the solar power plant” – said Vasyl Kushneriov, technical supervision and commissioning manager.

DTEK Renewables moved its construction site to the solar farm, where the company’s employees lived while fixing the solar farm.

The specialists were tasked with inspecting, repairing, and replacing power equipment, calibrating solar panels, reconfiguring them, connecting and adjusting them, and installing an automated control system to achieve the highest possible level of solar power generation.

“The damage to the solar farm was significant and was also caused by fires due to short circuits. About 20 people worked on the project every day. All the power equipment was actually moved by hand, and it was quite a painstaking work” – admitted Kostiantyn Styopin, technical supervision and commissioning manager.

As a result, DTEK Renewables team managed to restore 60% of solar farm’s power generating capacity (3 MW) in a record 40 days, and the SPP is already generating electricity for the region again.

DTEK Renewables is open to help restore other renewables facilities in Ukraine. It strengthens the energy security and the energy independence of Ukraine.
