DTEK Renewables Establishes Green Energy Laboratory at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

On February 11, DTEK Renewables, in collaboration with the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management, established a renewable energy laboratory at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. This initiative underscores the company's dedication to providing high-quality education to aspiring professionals who will play a crucial role in Ukraine's energy recovery.

The renewable energy laboratory comprises two areas dedicated to solar and wind energy, respectively.

The company has provided the necessary technical equipment for the educational and research laboratory and plans to continue its support in the coming years. Energy storage systems, solar panels, an inverter, and equipment for measuring meteorological indicators have already been purchased for the renewable energy laboratory at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

“We are pleased to support the education of future energy sector professionals in partnership with Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. I believe that the modernized classrooms and new technical equipment will enhance the learning experience for both teachers and students. Let this project inspire and motivate young professionals to acquire new knowledge and apply it to the future restoration of Ukraine's energy potential,” said Oleksandr Selyshchev, CEO of DTEK Renewables.

Currently, the first stage of cooperation between DTEK Renewables and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has been implemented. The next stage will involve the expansion of the lab's technical facilities, including the purchase of various types of solar panels, an additional inverter, a tracker unit, and specialized tools for laboratory research.

The laboratory is designed for students majoring in G3 – Electrical Engineering (141 “Electric-Power Industry, Electrical Engineering, and Electrical Machinery”) at the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, under the programs “Systems for Power Supply to Consumers” and “Energy Management and Energy-Efficient Technologies.”

When preparing diploma projects under these educational programs at the Bachelor's and Master's levels, students will also cover a section dedicated to renewable energy sources.

Students will develop research skills using field-specific measuring equipment such as digital solar PV module testers, power quality analyzers, and more. This will enable them to analyze solar panel degradation in various operating modes and process data from temperature sensors, insolation levels, and other climatic indicators.

“Supporting and establishing field-specific laboratories, including our cooperation with this university, demonstrates DTEK Renewables' commitment as a socially responsible business. There are many such projects at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, allowing us to enhance the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the educational process. This cooperation will expand our capacity to train energy sector professionals, making a significant contribution to our state's recovery,” noted Anatoliy Melnychenko, rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

In addition to providing equipment, DTEK Renewables will also hold educational events for students in collaboration with the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management. They plan to conduct workshops and lectures by the company's leading professionals and invited industry experts to help students gain knowledge based on real cases.
