DTEK Renewables and the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” continue to develop the scientific and technical infrastructure for future energy professionals. At the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management (ESIE), a modern weather station has been installed and put into operation. The components for the meteorological station installed at the Renewables Laboratory were purchased thanks to funding from DTEK Renewables.
This project marked another stage in a long-term partnership that began in August 2024 with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation. In February 2025, the Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Wind Energy Lecture Hall were opened with the company’s support.
The next step in the collaboration was the purchase of components for a weather station, which was installed on the roof of the teaching block. This project involved lecturers and students, who independently selected the equipment, assembled and configured the devices. Now, future specialists can monitor solar insolation, wind speed and direction, and temperature readings in real time, and use this data in the learning process during practical and laboratory work, as well as for research purposes.
“Our partnership with Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is an investment in Ukraine’s energy security. We are not just providing equipment; we are creating an environment where students gain practical experience before they graduate. It is important that future specialists leave university with experience of working with real equipment,” said Vitaliy Gerasymenko, Head of the Engineering Department at DTEK Renewables.
“Partnerships with market leaders such as DTEK Renewables allow our university to align the educational process with the industry’s real needs. Given the shortage of specialists, we must train engineers who are ready to meet the challenges of the modern energy sector from their very first day on the job. Our collaboration is an example of how the synergy between science and business lays the foundation for our country’s energy independence,” emphasised Yuriy Veremiychuk, Candidate of Technical Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of Power Supply, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
Students enrolled on the ‘Electricity Supply Systems’ and ‘Energy Management and Energy-Efficient Technologies’ degree programmes study at the Renewable Energy Laboratory.
DTEK Renewables also involves students from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in its team as part of a dual education programme — combining study with real-world work and practical experience. The company has already its first case of a student being employed in its engineering department.
