DTEK, GE sign turbine agreement for Primorsk wind farm, to be among the most innovative and powerful in Ukraine

GE’s Onshore Wind business will provide 26 3MW-class turbines for the Primorskaya wind electric plant. These turbines, which will be manufactured in Europe, include some of the company’s most advanced technology developments and are able to adapt to wide variety of wind conditions. After the construction is complete, the Primorskaya WEP wind turbines will be among the most powerful in Ukraine.

The installation and subsequent maintenance of the wind turbines will be handled by GE in the Ukraine. The construction of the Primorskaya WEP is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2018.

“As part of its commitments to the European Energy Community, Ukraine has to increase the share of renewable energy generation in the national energy balance to 11% by 2020,’ says DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko.  – DTEK is one of the key drivers to achieve this target. Today our project portfolio envisages the construction of 1 GW of RES capacities. For implementation of these projects, we engage foreign investors and equipment manufacturers who can bring most innovative and advanced technologies to our country. General Electriс – one of the global leaders in turbine manufacturing – has been our partner for many years, and today we start cooperation in the renewable energy sector.  Joint projects of such scale are a positive fact confirming growing trust in Ukraine’s economy and energy sector among global business players. At the end of last year, Ukraine approved the National emissions reduction plan. The start of Primorsk wind farm construction is important input of DTEK in its realization. The new wind park will strengthen Ukraine’s position on its way towards modernization of its energy sector, energy independence, and diversification of energy sources.”

Pete McCabe, President & CEO of GE's Onshore Wind Business, said, “GE Renewable Energy is pleased to work with DTEK, the largest Independent Power Producer and leader in the renewable energy sector in Ukraine, on this exciting project. Together, we will be able to provide affordable, reliable and clean energy to the residents and businesses of the Zaporizhia region.”

The two stages of the Primorskaya WEP are scheduled to be commissioned before 2020. The plant will produce 650-700 million kWh of “green” electric energy on a yearly basis. Resulting from the operation of the Primorskaya WEP, CO2 emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced by 600-700 thousand tonnes annually, due to the decrease in the load of traditional generation facilities.
