Employees of DTEK Renewables together with representatives of the Southern Office of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” planted 2,400 acacia saplings near the village of Anatolivka in Mykolaiv region.
This important environmental activity, even during a full-scale war, will help improve the environmental situation in the region, preserve biodiversity, and prevent wind erosion.
“Planting trees is always a good idea. We all understand how much the nature of Ukraine has suffered as a result of the hostilities: how many forests have burned down, how much soil is contaminated with toxic substances, and how long it will take to restore a healthy environment for our country,” says Tetiana Babich, Environmental Manager at DTEK Renewables. ”Together with our partners from the state-owned enterprise Forests of Ukraine, we have restored the former forest plantations by planting almost 2,500 white acacia seedlings on an area of 0.5 hectares. This symbiosis of environmentally responsible business and the state gives us hope for a faster revival of nature.”
This is just one of DTEK Renewables' environmental activities. In 2021, the company built 1,500 m2 of “Bird Islands” – wooden platforms for bird nesting that help protect birds from predators in the Tyligul Estuary.
The company also conducts annual monitoring of bird and bat populations. Over the entire period of monitoring, no cases of injury or death of animals near DTEK Renewables' wind farms have been detected.
